Thieves Guild

" Me dad caught a knocker,
Who came along knocking
For mama’s locker.
The knocker jumped out,
Me mother gave a shout
And in came daddy
With his neck hanging out. "
- Popular Cernish nursery rhyme

Location: all civilized lands

Organized crime is often called the work of a Thieves Guild – certainly a better name than ‘a loose pack of cut-throats and thugs’ which the so-called Guild consists of. Though they may have been romanticized in numerous folk tales, the activities of various Thieves Guilds are not robbing from the rich and heroic cat burglaries, but extortion, smuggling and murder. Some say in Osric they operate in the open with proper guild regulations. Others say Thieves Guild is just another word for their merchant leagues.

In Aenoria members of a Thieves Guild are sometimes known as “knockers” – word originating from a supposed malicious fairy that lives beneath the ground and has an endless lust for shiny objects. Using the calling name to a guild thief’s face by a non-guild member is a sure way of being founded next morning floating face down in the closest ditch.
